Disappointments

The biggest disappointment I could ever have imagined, has become a reality for me. Due to illness I am no longer able to record and perform my music. I will be keeping the websites up to date from now on though.

There are bound to be disappointments along the way, and the most important thing is to keep true to yourself. If you write some music, or words (Lyrics), it is something to be proud of. The fact you have done this, is more than some people do in a lifetime. You need to be confident that you have created something new and individual.

Serious Change Of Circumstances

It is the biggest disappointment I have had to face yet. The fact that I will not spend ant more happy hours in my recording studio. In late July 2001, my condition became drastically worse. I develloped a form of vertigo that has left me unable to sit at all so I am now horizontal 100% of the time. This is not curable and only time will tell if I am ever going to be able to enjoy making music again. I am now putting most of my time into the Moby Project

The Vanessa Show

I could not have a Disappointments section without mentioning the loss of my chance of recognition from the interest in my project, shown by the team. Although I had only had a letter confirming their interest in my story, you never know where it might have led. The show was AXED by the BBC.

White Town

In the early days I was very excited when Jyoti Mishra of White Town contacted me. Offers were made that have never materialised, and emails remain un-answered, but his advice has been invaluable.

Talk Radio

I have had some knock-backs from those I least expected. After I performed Live on Talk Radio, singing my song Empty School-Yard, there was a big response from the listeners, and I had a three phone calls from James Whale's producer Linda Bartley following up, and asking if I had produced a recording yet. It took all of 10 weeks to get something sorted out, but when I had, I rang the direct number Linda had given me at least 6 times, without speaking directly, but leaving a message each time. I never received a response, so sent a copy of my Demo C.D. After a while I phoned into the James Whale Show and spoke to James, who remembered me, and again confirmed they would play my song. After no further contact, and sending a second C.D. to James I wrote to the station, in an attempt to find out why my calls were not being returned, after all, they had been urging me to do something with my song. They declined to use the C.D, which is reasonable as they are not a Music orientated station. There was no need for the situation to arise, and I think a lot of disappointment could have been avoided, had they not made a promise they did not intend to keep. It may be viewed as sour grapes, but my pet name for the station is... ALL-TALK RADIO

R.T.T. Music

After being offered a 5 year Publishing and Recording Contract, by Rolf Thorbjornsen of R.T.T. Music in Norway. I had to make the decision to decline their offer of a contract, as there were too many down points noted by the Musicians' Union solicitors, and others, to enter into an agreement.

The main points raised were that the contract was governed by Norwegian Law, and included a Publishers Shared Royalty Agreementwhich would have meant that R.T.T. Music would have taken a 40% portion of my royalties, as well as their own. The lack of track record and experience was also a major factor.
