Welcome, let me introduce you to My Music.

I have had a great love of music since my first stage performance at the age of four. I was assisted by a tall bar stool to enable me to reach the microphone at its lowest position. I remember the pennies given to me by the audience bursting the lining of my inside pocket. It was the beginning of my love affair with performance, and music.

I had shut out music since my accident, as it constantly reminded me of what I was missing in not being able to stand in front of an audience.

It was when a friend of my son Chase (now 24 yrs), was dropped from a band and Chase asked me to write some material for him that my life changed. The feedback from family and friends was so overwhelming, as I performed my new material, that I knew then, that I should try and use the talent I always felt I had, to try to change my life.

Knowing that unless I receive successful treatment, I may not be able to perform my own material, I have written songs with established recording artists in mind as a source of inspiration.

One I had penned with Cliff Richard in mind is called Cruel World, but the listeners of Radio Derby liked my version so much, I have recorded it myself.

After obtaining a copy of my Really Under Rated Album, singing star Johnette Napolitano of Talking Heads fame, is currently recording the track.

It was BBC RAdio Derby presenter John Holmes who first nicknamed me Horizontal Paul, and after consideration and discussion, we decided that I would use the name Horizontal Paul to record under. I have introduced myself in this way to quite a lot of people, and it always breaks the ice nicely, and shows that I have a good sense of humour. I have recorded a Dance Track which is purely intrumental, and have re-recorded a song I wrote with Chris Rea in mind called Russian Roulette, using the Real Media format.

Music Samples

If you are interested in listening to my music there are samples of all my album available to listen to. You will need to have the RealNetworks G2 Player installed.

Disappointments

I would not be possible to be involved in a project this size without some disappointments, so I have tried to present a full picture. I have detailed some of the set-backs I have experienced. The lastest problem being my health. In the last year I have developed a vertigo problem where I pass out if I try to sit up or roll left or right. I am now resident in Amber Lodge Nursing Home I am beyond the care my family can offer. The thought of never recording music again is hard to take.

Documentary

I always wanted to keep some sort of video record of the project, and have appeared in a BBC News 24 documentary about my life as it is now, and coping with disability. I was delighted with the outcome, as it is probably the best positive representation of disability I have ever seen. The documentary is part of the Face In The Crowd series, and I was very fortunate to be asked to take part. Im view of the fact that the musical aspect of the documentary was minimal, as they said they had so much interesting film. I would still like to document my story from the musical perspective.

Please check out the Moby Project and the ground-breaking aspects of the project. We have now added Free Nokia Stuff to the site that is proving a very popular addition.
