Welcome to Paul's page...proom2.jpg

So what about me...

Some years ago I had an accident whilst playing with my two children, made worse by a further injury whilst weight training. The result is that I have been a bed-bound paraplegic for the last 20 years. Life overtook my childhood dreams, and I guess I never wanted the glitter bad enough to really go for it. I was always happy to find a pub to sing in, a pen and paper to write my songs down, and a guitar that went everywhere I did. It was when SUPERMAN actor Christopher Reeve had his terrible riding accident, that I started to follow his progress. Christopher was not content to take his accident lying down, and has launched his own project to help those with spinal injuries by becoming a Director of the American. Paralysis. Association.

paul1.jpg I decided I too should find the courage try to change my life, but did not consider music until BBC Radio Derby played one of my songs called Cruel World. In this day and age, it is in the music industry where big money can be earned, and where I felt I had the biggest chance of success, and felt I had enough talent to accomplish my ambition. This is where my Music Project began. When you start a project like this, it is because of the dreams and expectations you have in mind for your future. Your hopes, and dreams, are what will guide you through life, and it is the thought that you really might succeed that keeps you going. In my case, I have done many things that I am proud of. I write poems, Visit my Poetry Page short stories, and have many ideas for film scripts. I have even had my own regular column in a national magazine. I also have about 40 of my document based computer programs registered as FreeWare on many C.D.'s, and I am a licensed Radio Amateur (G0RUR).

paul2.jpgI dare say if the Music Project were not going so well I would be writing, but I suppose my Web Site is an extension of this. The one thing about this site is that you are going to have to read its content. I have not intended it to contain too much in graphics, in order to leave you scope to come up with fresh ideas for its content. I hope to show you that any bad situation can turned into a positive one, if you put your heart into it. Its a matter of having faith in yourself. You may be at an age where learning is so difficult, but later in life you will see what fun it can be.

pbed.jpgMy best friend Jeremy used to build my Web Sites for me, but in order to be able to update my site I had to keep troubling Jeremy to make changes. Whilst Jeremy was away on holiday, I learned HTML from a book, and it only took 3 days to make a reasonable Web Page. Its all a matter of need, and enjoying learning. I am fortunate to have a friend who supports me, and I only have to ask Jeremy if I can loan his digital camera to be able to update my pages. Part of my medical situation dictates that I can only sit upright for short spells without passing out, so I am able to quickly pose, and then see the results straight away, enables me to pick the shots I am going to use on the site there and then, and really helps.

paulcd.jpgIt is then a simple matter of uploading them to my computer for immediate use. In my circumstances, I can't attend classes, so I have to teach myself. Learning my way around a keyboard has been a great joy, and I haven't even scratched the surface yet. I have an injured right hand, which means I have record sections separately, and then mix the tracks together. I have been working very hard putting an album together. After I completed it, I contacted Sound Recording Technology to have my work digitally re-mixed, and copies pressed for sale. Monday the 13th March 2000, will see the release of my first ablum called Really Under Rated, which I have released under my own label of the same name. There is a mixture of styles from Dance to Ballads, and it also includes the Empty School-Yard track which I , which I plan to release as a single in the near future. We are actually filming the pop video on the 10th March 2000, with the assistance of Sunnyhill Infants School.

rec1.jpgSo what do I see for the future..?

I always said that if I achieved any success I would like to do two things. First would be to start my own Record Label, and the Second would be to set up a service that would provide Free Mobile Recording Studio facilities to the disabled. This is proving to be a very popular idea, and we are starting the ground work to make this a reality. The mobile studio would be housed in a Removals Van or HGV type vehicle, and a Nurse, and Sound Engineer, would be on hand to assist. This would mean that no-one would have to go through, what I have gone through, to get this far again. Meanwhile I will keep pressing forward until I get the break I need.
